Meet at the Landmark parking lot to help hang crocheted "yarn arms," created by more than 60 local fiber artists to hug 50 trees in Port Washington in honor of Earth Month. The rain date is Sunday, March 27. Wear sturdy, comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Advanced registration is strongly encouraged; please email yarnarmsaroundport@gmail.com.

Yarn Arms Launch & Press Conference

Blumenfeld Family Park

Town of North Hempstead, Nassau County, and NY State officials will join Residents Forward -- along with project director and fiber artist Allison White -- to announce and celebrate the installation of Yarn Arms Around Port. This project has brought together 60 Port residents to crochet granny squares and hands, which have become yarn arm "hugs" to be wrapped around 50 Port Washington trees for the month of April. Residents Forward will also announce the winners of its "I Love Trees" Video Contest--one of the environmental initiatives launched in conjunction with Yarn Arms Around Port. Join us!

Spring 2022 Climate Awareness Garden Program–Second Class

The first class was held on April 4th, but it is not too late to sign up! Through Gardening and other outdoor activities, elementary students will grow vegetables, learn about climate change and environmental protection, & develop confidence & independence.


“Be A Friend To Trees” Interactive Storytime

On Saturday, April 23rd, the Youth Council at the PIT at Landmark is hosting an Earth Day Art Festival and generously donating 50% of the proceeds to Residents Forward! We will kick off the festivities with an interactive reading of Be a Friend to Trees by Patricia Lauber. Meet for storytime at 10:00 am under the big tree on the West Lawn of the Landmark Building.

Clean Green Main Street

Join us for our annual Main Street Clean Up. Meet at the LIRR station at 9:00 am. We'll provide gloves, bags and tools. All you need is comfortable clothing and a desire to make Port Washington beautiful! We invite the participation of troops, teams and clubs--and any middle or high school students who need volunteer hours.
