PROGRAMS
We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. – Native American Proverb
Our dynamic, award-winning programs fall into three main categories:
- Beautification & Pride
- Environmental Education & Action
- Advocacy
BEAUTIFICATION & PRIDE
We do this via a series of programs, including:
- Give a Litter Bit/Clean Green Main Street
- Port Washington Mural Project
- Port Washington Blooms
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION & ACTION
“Teach your children well…” – Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Our children are our future; our environment is their future. Residents is committed to reaching the youngest of our community members via the Port Washington schools, helping to deepen their understanding of the environment and the role they can play in protecting it. To that end, Residents Forward runs programs starting in elementary school through high school. The programs build in depth and complexity as students move from grade to grade. Residents identifies and funds top environmental educators and institutions around Long Island to run these programs, which explore key topics including: recycling, natural habitats, sustainability, global warming, and environmental health. These programs are funded through grants and private donors through Residents; thus this tremendous enrichment is provided at no cost to the school district.

ADVOCACY
“I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees. I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues.” – Dr. Seuss
Long before “going green” was mainstream, Dr. Seuss’s Lorax spoke for the trees and warned of the dangers of disrespecting the environment. Residents Forward is committed to advocating for our environment, our water, and our community, with an energy that would make the Lorax proud. We seek to build beauty, resiliency, sustainability, and vibrancy to the future of Port Washington.
